Centre for Research
in the History of Philosophical Ideas

Axiology

Axiology — the theory of values — is one of the fundamental directions assumed by the centre. The direction researches the nature of values (philosophical, ethical, aesthetic, cultural), their hierarchies and the way systems of values transform in late modernity.

Archive anchor points

  • The inter-academic project “Culture and Value in Late Modernity” — research dedicated to values and their relation with art in knowledge-based societies, carried out on the occasion of the international conference “Identity and Diversity in Contemporary Culture – Process Philosophy Approaches” (Bucharest, 23–24 September 2016). The conference thematised precisely the tensions between systems of cultural values in the context of migration and technology (details in International projects).
  • The National Conference “Critique, Marginality, Cynicism” (2015) — a debate on the values of critique and the place of marginality in cultural hierarchies (Volumes).

Connections

  • Ethics — moral values.
  • Aesthetics — aesthetic values; the theme of the sublime as the value “the most ethical of man’s aesthetic qualities” (Ion Ianoși).
