Ideas in Nocturne, Sources of Philosophy, the edition of 9 June 2016, Between Yesterday and Today. Philosophical and Aesthetic Explorations of the World of Art

The organisation by the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest of the fifth edition of the „Ion Ianoși” National Conference on Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art can prove a good occasion for reflection on the way in which, with remarkable efforts and, unfortunately, too little known to the cultivated public, the philosophical dialogue is realised between the Romanian research tradition in the field of aesthetics and the current programmes of philosophical and interdisciplinary exploration of the contemporary artistic phenomenon. See, http://filosofie.unibuc.ro/2017/05/16/conferinta-nationala-de-estetica-si-filosofia-artei-ion-ianosi-sublimul-in-cultura/

Placed under the sign of the sublime, „the most ethical of man's aesthetic qualities”, as the late aesthetician Ion Ianoși put it in a reference work, Estetica of 1975, this edition thematically fulfils the earlier efforts of scrutinising various directions of exploration of the world of art, which go far beyond the narrow interest of specialists. Here, by way of illustration, are the themes of the four previous editions of the Conference… in 2013 – Philosophical Ideas in Modern and Contemporary European Art (1850-2000), in 2014 – Art as Experience and Experience as Art, in 2015 – Play in Aesthetic Thought and Contemporary Art, in 2016 – The Category of the New. The Impact on Art and Aesthetic Thought in the 20th Century. Consequently, the vocation of aesthetics to offer conceptual tools of understanding and intellectual orientation in the disconcerting world of artistic creation and practices, an ideal of knowledge assiduously promoted by Ion Ianoși, remains today at the forefront of the dialogue between generations of philosophers, who explore the mystery of art and the potential for joy of our human being.

How is this conversational model of philosophical analyses in the world of art concretely realised, to use Richard Rorty's words?

This week's Sources of Philosophy debate will centre on this question.

We are delighted by the presence in the studio of Prof. Mihaela Pop, PhD, and of Oana Șerban, doctoral student in philosophy and scientific researcher at the Centre for Research in the History of Philosophical Ideas, on whose initiative, year after year, the dialogue between generations in contemporary Romanian aesthetics takes place with an impressive national participation.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday, 9 June 2017, between 21.10 and 22.00 on the wavelengths of RRC.
