Centre for Research
in the History of Philosophical Ideas

Missions and History

Mission

The CCIIF’s mission is to carry out academic activities of excellence in the fields of the history of philosophy and intercultural studies. The Centre constitutes a university space devoted to philosophical debate, interdisciplinary dialogue and research synchronised with the pedagogical activity of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest.

Objectives

The Centre’s staff commits to developing philosophical knowledge on four planes:

1. Fundamental philosophical knowledge, along thematic directions such as: the history of philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of religion, hermeneutics, ethics, aesthetics, axiology and philosophical anthropology.

2. Applied philosophical knowledge, with emphasis on: the philosophy of the image, the hermeneutics of religious symbols, the hermeneutics and phenomenology of culture and civilisation (the philosophy of kitsch, urbanism), applied ethics (ethics in business and in politics, environmental ethics), the philosophy of the sciences, and the philosophy of sociology, economics and political science.

3. The cultural dialogue between religion and philosophy: dialogue and interconfessional mediation, public perceptions of philosophical and theological knowledge, attitudes and conflicts regarding the role of religion in contemporary society (freedom of expression / freedom of religion), and public policies in the field of culture and religious denominations.

4. Doctoral and continuing education in the field of the history of philosophy and intercultural studies: the organisation of summer schools, intensive courses and distance-learning courses, thematic symposia and round tables, and the publication of books and specialist works.

Each direction is detailed in the Research directions section.
